Vizio Plasma TV vs. Cheap LCD
You may be experiencing a bit of sticker shock when you go to the electronics store in search of a new television. TV prices have skyrocketed in the last few years due in no small part to the new technology that has been introduced into the television marketplace. Flat panels are a relatively new commodity item and have not had the same amount of time as CRT monitors to reach a universally attractive price point. It is simple manufacturing economics; the longer an item is on the market the longer the manufacturer has to streamline and economize the manufacturing process and thus bring prices down. It’s not that manufacturers are going out of their way to gouge consumers, rather it is just that they have not had enough time to let technology catch-up to the manufacturing processes and bring costs down.
A Vizio plasma TV is still a better buy than most inexpensive LCD televisions despite the fact that they cost a little bit more money. The fact is this extra cash for a Vizio plasma TV has nothing to do with paying a brand name tax, but rather it has to do with the superior construction and components used in creating the television. With a cheap LCD television you stand the risk of buying a product that will break within one to two years of purchase and will almost certainly lose color and picture fidelity in a short amount of time. Not to mention when you buy a cheap LCD TV you probably do not buy the extended warranty plan because it ends up costing more than the TV itself. Keeping all this in mind there really is no reason why you would not choose the slightly more expensive Vizio HDTV 32 over a cheap LCD television.
